Since 2007, more than 3,000 participants from 30 countries have engaged in Dance for PD® workshops and seminars, designed and produced by the Mark Morris Dance
Group. These educational programs introduce participants to the distinctive, research-informed approach of Dance for PD, which is recognized internationally as a leader in arts in health and is utilized as a model in 500 communities around the world. This workshop is designed primarily for dance teaching artists who want to adapt their
skills to work confidently and effectively with people living with Parkinson’s, following the Dance for PD® methodology. Trainees will explore class structure, pedagogy, and safe and effective activity design, and take part in a practicum to develop teaching techniques and class material alongside founding teachers and fellow trainees. While the workshop
is dance-centered, Physical and Occupational Therapists, movement educators, and fitness instructors are welcome to attend through the Educational & Professional Enrichment (EPE) track, which offers an in-depth introduction to the program’s core principles for those without dance training. Introductory workshops are designed to prepare experienced
dance educators to start leading classes and serve as a prerequisite for entry into the Dance for PD® Dance Teacher Certification or Registered Teaching Assistant programs. Completion of an introductory online course is required prior to attending the in-person workshop.
All trainees must satisfactorily complete an asynchronous 8-unit online training program before attending the live in-person workshop. The cost of this 8-unit course is included in your registration fee. It is expected that the self-directed course will take 8-10 hours to complete. You'll receive a link to this course when we
approve your training application.

group process...I feel uplifted and inspired by all I witnessed..."—Trainee "My staff reported to me that this was the only training they had ever received in movement/exercise other than cursory information during nursing assistant or nursing training. They were so excited to start using the tools

The Mark Morris Dance Group's Dance for PD® program invites people with Parkinson's and their families in more than 500 communities and 30 countries around the globe to experience the joys and benefits of dance while creatively addressing symptom-specific concerns related to balance,
cognition, motor skill, depression and physical confidence. Through its innovative, internationally-replicated classes, acclaimed teacher training program, and high quality media resources, Dance for PD's fundamental working principle since 2001 is that professionally-trained dancers are movement experts whose knowledge about balance, sequencing, rhythm and aesthetic awareness is useful to persons with PD. In class, teaching artists integrate movement from modern, ballet, tap, folk and social
dancing, and choreographic repertory to engage participants' minds and bodies and create an enjoyable, social environment for artistic exploration. Dance for PD has been featured in The New York Times, USA Today, Dance Magazine, The Guardian and hundreds
of other publications, and has been honored by several local, national and international awards, including the Parkinson Awareness Award, Alan Bonander Humanitarian Award, and the Sapolin Public Service Award from the New York City Mayor's Office for People with Disabilities. Peer-reviewed research from more than 50 published studies suggests that the Dance for PD approach provides a range of benefits, including improved walking and short-term mobility, enhanced quality of life, and
self-efficacy, slowing of symptom progression, and improvements in mood and social inclusion among people with Parkinson's. Current research partnerships with York University, New York University/Rockefeller University, Columbia University, and Northeastern University continue to build a strong research basis for the Dance for PD approach.
About Oslo Opera & Ballet
The Norwegian National Opera & Ballet comprises the Norwegian National Ballet, the Norwegian National Opera, the Norwegian National Opera Orchestra, the Norwegian National Opera Chorus, the Norwegian National Opera Children’s Chorus, and the Norwegian National Ballet School. In 2008 the organization moved into its new
home, the Oslo Opera House, located in Bjørvika. Since its opening, images of the building’s striking, angular architecture—seemingly rising from the waters of the Oslo Fjord—have become known around the world and are now considered the defining visual signature of the Opera House. This was precisely the intention of the architects, Snøhetta, who envisioned the roof as a publicly accessible platform that would serve as a new civic space in the center of Oslo, while simultaneously creating a new
landscape that brings together the natural beauty of the fjord and the life of the city.
About Norges Parkinsonforbund
The Norwegian Parkinson's Association is a nationwide interest organization for people with Parkinson's disease, their relatives and other interested parties. The organization has approximately 6,500 members, 50 county and local associations, as well as 350 elected representatives, peers and user
collaborators.
